Anton Fricko, IBM

 Anton  Fricko Anton (Tony) Fricko has worked with IBM since 1971 in several international roles in Europe, joining the UK Hursley Laboratories in 1999. His current role is Program Manager for jStart Emerging Technologies, where he assists customers all over Europe in the adoption of new technologies, focusing on SOA, Autonomic Computing and OSS. Since 2004 Tony performs this function from his home town Vienna, Austria.

Abstract: Geronimo is an open source J2EE server project by the Apache Software Foundation which was the basis for another open source application server developed by the US based company called Gluecode. IBM acquired this company in 2005 and based on Gluecode's efforts has built its first free, open source application server, WAS-CE - IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition, Version 1.0 This session will explain the main features of WAS-CE, the motivation of IBM to provide such a free, open source application server in addition to its current range of WebSphere application servers, future plans for WAS-CE and how this fits into IBM's open source strategy.
