Software project management in development of large scale community health
care systems
Abstract The development of a patient-centered, community based health
care information system requires substantial infrastructure development. Seamless
integration of primary care clinicians is essential for the evolution of a longitudinal
electronic health record. Important components include:
- Technology enabling connectivity among all participants
 - Support for scalable VLDB's (very large data bases)
 - Business model that permits affordable access by primary care physicians as well as by large hospitals
 - A standard information model (including effective modeling of participants and medical health care objects)
 - Standard terminology for representing clinical activity performed by all clinicians
 - Effective tools for representing complex clinical work flow including protocols that
    organize care across all locations.
